PR Card

Initial PR card is applied at port of entry when FN enters Canada for first time after immigrating. PR card is valid for 5 years and can be renewed afterwards. PR card is an important document as it is required to re-enter Canada.

PR card can be renewed 9 months before its expiry date.

Following residency Requirements must be met to renew PR status:

  • You must have been physically present in Canada for at least 730 days (2 years) within past 5 years ; if you have been a PR status holder for 5 years or more
  • You must show that you WILL be able to meet the minimum of 730 days of physical presence in Canada within 5 years of date you became PR; if you have been a PR status holder for less than 5 years

Time spent outside Canada can also be considered towards residence obligation under certain circumstances such as:

  • Each day spent outside Canada with a Canadian spouse / Common law or parent (in case your age is under 19 years) can be counted towards residence obligation
  • Each day spent outside Canada as a full time employee of a Canadian business / Public Service of Canada or province, can also be considered towards residency obligation.
