Canada government launched CERB – Canada Emergency Response Benefits program today to help people whose income got affected due to COVID-19. It will provide $500 / week for up to 16 weeks for eligible residents of Canada. Good news is that International students and foreign workers can also apply for CERB as long as they meet the requirements.
Requirements for CERB:
- must be of at least 15 years age and current resident of Canada
- must have stopped working because of COVID-19 and NOT quit job voluntarily
- must had income of at least $5,000 in past 12 months prior to the date of application or in year 2019
- had no income in first 14 days of benefit period
- expect to have no employment income for the remaining benefit period as well
